The Anatomy of a Surfboard

Foamcore

This is the heart of all our boards and is made of high-quality EPS with unique technology to keep the balls stuck together and reduce the water infiltration. All our cores are locally sourced to reduce transportation and are molded in aluminum tooling to avoid waste.

Fibers

The flexibility and strength of the surfboard are driven by the outsidefibers. We have a large selection of multi-axis glass fibers with special reinforcements of premium materials such as carbon or natural fibers as flax.

Top Sheet

The surfboard’s top sheet provides additional reinforcement to the surfboard and offers support for all the graphics you can imagine. With the guidance of our graphics team, the finest, most scratch-resistant top sheets will be used in combination with the best printing method to reveal the full potential of your artwork.

Resin

We propose to our customers a wide choice of epoxy resins with different options of foaming ones or bio-sourced materials for greener projects.

The Process of Making a Surfboard

Choosing The Right Materials

With the choice of the right materials, we must make them now effective and choose the correct process in combination with the right parameters to manufacture the best board.

Aluminum Molding

The molding is carried out with our unique technology on a press with aluminum tools at high temperature to guarantee the best impregnation of the fibers, and the best adhesion between core, fibers and top sheet. The result is simple, we produce lightweight and super-resistant boards while respecting the original shape with unrivaled precision.

Graphics Printing

With our long-term experience, Playmaker supports 5 different ways to print graphics on the top sheet, from silkscreen printing to UV Digital Direct printing with the traditional water sticker with spray printing.

Finishing

To complete the surfboard tune-up, we offer 2 different options of finishing, matt varnish and glossy polish, to fullfill customer needs and requests.

How to Choose a Surfboard?

There are many things to consider when it comes to choosing a surfboard, each factor could play an important role in your surfing experience. So, here are the things that you might want to think about when choosing a surfboard:

Function and Types of Surfboards

Different types of surfboards serve different functions. Longboards are great for beginners and for catching small waves, while shortboards are designed for quick maneuvers and are suited for more advanced surfers. Fish boards offer a middle-ground option, good for medium-sized waves and less aggressive turns.

Surfer’s Figure and Capability

The size and volume of the surfboard should correspond to your body weight and skill level. For beginners, a larger board with more volume is generally easier to balance on. Advanced surfers might prefer smaller, more agile boards for complex maneuvers.

Wave Size

Your choice might also be influenced by the kinds of waves you’ll be surfing. Different boards perform better in various conditions, such as small, mushy waves or large, fast ones. Additionally, consider the material of the board as it can significantly impact performance.

How Much is a Surfboard? – The Price Range of Surfboards

Surfboards can range from $200 to upwards of $2,000. Beginner boards, often made from foam, are generally more affordable, starting around $200-$400. Intermediate boards, usually made from epoxy, can range from $500-$800. Advanced boards, custom-made or constructed from high-end materials like carbon fiber, can cost $1,000 or more.

Materials

Factors That Influence the Price of a Surfboard

The type of material used is one of the most significant factors affecting the cost. Foam boards are cheaper but less durable, while epoxy and fiberglass boards offer a balance of performance and cost. High-end materials like carbon fiber will significantly bump up the price.

Brand and Craftsmanship

Top brands that are known for quality and performance often come with a premium price tag. Additionally, boards that are hand-shaped as opposed to machine-made also tend to be more expensive due to the craftsmanship involved.

Customization

Any customization, be it the design, shape, or added features like specialized fins, will increase the cost of the board.

Location

Where you buy your surfboard can also influence the price. Surf shops located in high-tourist areas or premium neighborhoods may charge more than online retailers or shops in less affluent areas.

All of these meant nothing without our quality control team and procedure. We are determined to make the best surfboards and only deliver 1st quality products.
